E222 Amping Up Amy with Amy Schmidt
Fearlessly Facing Fifty: The stay-at-home mom pivot
First off, I could not resist a walk down memory lane for Episode 222 with a nostalgic nod to Room 222 which held a solid place on the Friday nights of my childhood. Sleepovers, popcorn, sleeping bags, and the primetime ABC lineup: Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Room 222, The Odd Couple, and the then-so-racy Love American Style.
But now back to the business of midlife… Amy Schmidt!
Author, Speaker, and Podcaster, Amy Schmidt is my guest in this great episode which speaks to moms, both career champs and those who chose to put theirs aside to fully devote their attention and energy to the business of raising kids. My own midlife experience has been one of many moving parts, always working in some fashion, while doing my damnedest to raise my kids to become functional adults with fond childhood memories.
Whichever way each woman has balanced herself to accommodate family life, it is never without some sacrifice.
Amy and her husband made the decision with the arrival of their first of three children that because he was on the leadership track in his pharmaceutical sales career and travel would be required that she would step away from her career in journalism.
And then…
With only one high schooler at home and facing fifty, she amped up. Yes, with some fears, but she gathered her courage then climbed up the high dive and yelled out, “Look at ME!”, as she relaunched her career.
You can read her personal account of her own Experience 50 moments in her wonderful book, Cannonball, Fearlessly Facing Midlife and Beyond. I could relate to so many of her stories including the pain of finding no home button on my new iPhone and cleaning as therapy.
I will be sending a copy of Cannonball to one lucky listener. Email me (mary@experience50.com) a screenshot of your Apple Podcast review of The Experience 50 Podcast. I will select one on Sunday, October 4th and notify the winner.
Her podcast, Fearlessly Facing Fifty, is available on all podcast platforms and includes heartfelt interviews and solocasts sharing her wisdom and encouragement.
