Decluttering Midlife lightens your burden

Artist Joy Bender Hadley shares her story of a midlife transition, fueled by decluttering and getting organized. Unhappy in her career, Joy left her job, and while deciding what to do next, she devoted her time to organizing her studio which had become unmanageably disorganized and over-stuffed.

She found that in the process, her own thoughts and feelings became lighter and less stressed. Decluttering remains a work in progress, but already Joy has reworked her career to better fit her priorities, now in a part-time job and running her own art studio. She no longer accepts “someday” art materials and donates or gives things away as soon as the decision is made that something is going away. Even though the financial return is less, she reports being happier and better able to breathe in her new space.

Advice: Never underestimate the power of the label maker in decluttering!!
