Politics and Friendships
Opinion: A Small Victory For Civil Discourse, Mary Keyes Rogers
Politics and friends. I talk a lot about self-awareness in midlife. At least my efforts to become more aware of my foibles.
In my opinion column this week for the Northern Express, a local weekly news magazine, I share a fresh experience that puts one such foible on public display. That’s okay.
I have been pretty blown away by the public reaction and response to this piece of writing. All positive, which is nice, but more importantly, readers have shared that they want to try to be less judgemental of friends and family with different political views. This is something we all need to learn how to do, I’m trying, or I am afraid our country will be torn apart.
