E201 Now it all makes sense! with Sue William Silverman
Processing our memories, fears, compulsions – all the fun stuff
Author, speaker, and teacher Sue William Silverman settled in with me for a chat on the podcast to discuss her latest (and fabulous) book, How To Survive Death and Other Inconveniences. What a treat!
This episode of the podcast is a perfectly yummy adult conversation on the art of reflecting on our lives, peeling back the layers so to speak, and making sense of it all from this older, wiser, and more compassionate perspective.
As a professional speaker and writer, Sue has appeared on many nationally syndicated radio and TV programs including The View, Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN; a John Stossel Special on ABC-TV; CNN-Headline News; the Montel Williams Show; the Ricki Lake Show, etc…
A previous memoir, Love Sick: One Woman’s Journey through Sexual Addiction was produced as a Lifetime TV Movie, under the just slightly more salacious title, Love Sick: Secrets of a Sex Addict.
She published her first memoir in 1997, right around that magic age of 50 when we begin to reflect on our lives with purpose. Writing is her way of processing it all. She just does it in a very public way.
Sue shares that she is trying to beat death, with her sense of humor and mastery of storytelling. We dive into stories of her obsession with Adam Lambert (see photo), a moment of compassionate clarity in a grocery store bathroom, attending funerals as young children and having your memoir made into a Lifetime TV Movie (yes, really).
I found Sue to be very wise, remarkably resilient, so so smart, and funny. Her life has not been easy, that is for sure. She is a survivor of incest, a rape by a stranger resulting in pregnancy, a dissolved marriage that could not survive an addiction. And yet, here she is, light-hearted, enjoying every minute of a life well-lived. I am so grateful to have crossed paths with Sue Silverman, I do hope to meet her in person one day, and it is my pleasure to invite her into your day- I suggest without distraction, please settle in for a delightful visit with my new friend, author, speaker, and a stellar teacher at Vermont College of Fine Arts
